On the water between Poros and Hydra — Day 3 through my eyes

Day 3 took us from Poros to Hydra, and for me it was one of those days that reminded me exactly why this journey means so much.

When you are out there on the water, everything becomes very simple. There is the board beneath you, the sea around you, the people paddling beside you and the next stretch of water ahead.

At the same time, you never really forget why you are doing it. Every mile is part of something much bigger than the physical challenge itself. We are here to raise awareness for ALS, to support the people and families affected by the disease, and to keep this conversation moving forward.

A view from the board

Some of the best moments from this journey are not the ones captured from the support boats or from the shore. They are the moments we see ourselves while we are actually paddling.

These short videos were filmed from the water by the paddlers themselves. They show what the day really feels like from our perspective: the movement of the sea, the distance between us, the sound of the water and those brief moments when you look across and realise that everyone around you is sharing the same challenge.

The challenge is physical. The reason is personal.

There are obviously moments when the body gets tired. The shoulders, the arms and the back remind you that this is not an easy journey. But those moments are also when the purpose becomes even clearer.

For me, the Greek Islands Paddle to Cure ALS has always been about more than getting from one island to the next. It is about carrying the memory of the people we have lost, standing beside the people who are living with ALS today, and doing whatever we can to help build greater awareness and support.

Moving forward together

One of the things I appreciate most about this journey is that none of us is doing it alone.

There are the paddlers on the water, the support crews nearby, the people helping us at every stop and everyone following the journey from Greece, the United States and elsewhere. Every person adds something to the effort.

Day 3 was another reminder of that. We moved from Poros toward Hydra together, one stroke at a time, one mile at a time.

And tomorrow, we do it again.
